About

Grant Kalahar is a UEFA A License and FA Advanced Youth Award qualified coach and PFCA member who has worked in the football industry for around 20 years full and part time, playing a significant role in the development of several players and coaches that have secured professional contracts in the football industry.

He has held roles including Academy Manager, Head of Coaching, Coach, Specialist Development Coach and Football Development Officer working at organisations including Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport County AFC, Bristol Rovers and the FAW.

In the male game, Grant has extensive experience of working with players in the Foundation Phase, Youth Development Phase and Professional Development Phases recognised by EPPP as well as with professional players. He also has extensive experience in the female game working in FAW player development squads and as a technical consultant in WSL1. He has rounded his experience of working in player development by building a national squad for players that experience learning disabilities while working with the FAW and leading the squad in international tournaments.

Grant is a UEFA/FAW qualified coach educator, mentor and assessor working on USW’s integrated UEFA/FAW B License and C certificate and is also a Fundamental Movement Skills Tutor with UK Coaching. He has expertise in developing practices based on both trends in the elite game and academic theory supporting a fully integrated coaching philosophy exemplifying considerations for the technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social aspects of training programs, which he delivers practically on campus, and via high quality digital resources for online content.

Grant is currently engaged in elite coaching research and professional practice development through his network of elite practitioners which he uses to develop the USW football course content in order to ensure industry relevant learning and to support the key partners in the development of their elite coach development strategies. He also ensures that the network is utilised to provide masterclass events for on campus and online students and received recognition of best practice within USW for connecting students to his network through modern digital formats which has resulted in productive dialogue, learning and employment opportunities.
