LLB (Hons) 2:1 from Bristol University
Qualified as Solicitor (completing Law Society Finals and training contract) November 1995

I am an engaging and insightful lecturer and qualified solicitor with over 15 years’ expertise in corporate/commercial work gained predominantly in-house. I am also a consultant, author on company law matters (recently writing for Westlaw) and past chair of the Law Society’s Company Law Committee (2012 – 2015).

Teaching at HE since 2013 and USW since January 2015. Other experience at BPP University as a freelance tutor in Bristol and London. Also experience at the University of Law as a freelance tutor.
Prior to this Head of Internal Legal Services at Jordans Limited – Combining role of in-house legal counsel, business development and technical expert. Responsibilities included negotiating and drafting commercial agreements – distribution, outsourcing contracts, project management, loan documentation, bespoke terms and conditions, engagement letters and licensing. Leading on training employees, directors and presenting to clients and ICSA members (CPD accredited). Advising the board generally, e.g. on potentially litigious matters. Monitoring and enforcing policy and procedure on compliance and risk management. Research and maintaining precedents. Advising employees and auditing offices and departments. My final appraisal commented that employees naturally deferred to my authority indicating my leadership capacity.
Further, 6 months consultancy at KPMG Canary Wharf.
Chair of Company Law Committee for the Law Society (England and Wales) Chairing the Committee for three years working with other company law experts – including senior partners from the City, the Bar and senior academics – to review company law, advise Government and key stakeholders on legislative proposals, current problems for practitioners and input on the drafting of legislation. This requires excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork and the ability to collaborate with diverse groups.
Most recently, giving evidence to the Parliamentary Committee scrutinising the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill (now Act) on the Law Society’s behalf, moderating events involving the European Commission and the Financial Reporting Council, and presenting to the Italian Bar Council.
