BA (HONS) Sport and History. University of Liverpool
PGCE (QTS) Secondary Physical Education
An educator for over 15 years, I have used ICT try to change how education is delivered. With the introduction of the iPad I really saw how this could impact on teaching and learning and from this point I have developed into an advocate for developing their use across schools in all phases of education. I am a big user of twitter of which I use to further develop my network of professionals and to learn about new developments. I also keep my own blog to reflect on my practice and to share it with others. I am a published author with content available on the use of technology to improve teaching and learning.
Senior Lecturer, University of South Wales
My current role is to deliver the BA Primary Studies course at the University. Specific roles include delivery of Science and ICT as well as taking a lead on the development of digital skills for both lecturers and the students. This has seen the development of training courses for our students and the extension of this to our partner schools. I was recently awarded an Excellence in Learning and Teaching Award to recognise my work in University..
PE in Schools Support Manager — 2014 (Secondment)
I was responsible for training staff across 10 local authorities on the uses of technology in PE to impact on their key areas of learning and to directly impact on literacy and numeracy across the school. Another major part of the role was to organise a PE conference for teachers across Wales to highlight the work that was being done in schools from Foundation through to KS5. This conference accommodated 250 delegates and was resources through the use of an interactive book and iTunes U course providing a legacy to ongoing work.
Deputy Curriculum Leader Health and Expression — 2006-2014
This involved looking at the Teaching and Learning and Professional Development of a team of 16 members of staff. I lead on their development through staff training, in running the theoretical study courses at KS4 and 5 and organising the extra curricular provision for sport. The main drive was in the transformation of the teaching and learning through the use of iPad and iPod in both practical and theory sessions to drive progress forward and having staff teach outstanding sessions everyday.
Digital Innovation Champion — 2010-2014
Though an unofficial role in the school, I was been keen to further develop staff in using digital equipment outside of my teaching area. This resulted in staff training and student training on how the iPad and iPod could impact in the classroom. This developed knowledge of pedagogy across all stages of education and subjects.
