About

Jay Probert brings two decades of industry experience to his role as Lecturer in Football Development at the University of South Wales. A former Senior Partnership Manager within the Welsh Football Trust (WFT), his career to date has focused in particular on club development at a grass roots level across Wales.

A product himself of the volunteer pathway into the footballing industry, Jay undertook a series of coaching and committee-based roles with his local club before becoming a sessional coach for Fulham FC FITC and Cardiff City FITC, and also South West Division Head Coach for Christ College Secondary School in Brecon.

Subsequently a representative for the FAW on a number of UEFA Grassroots visits throughout Europe, Jay has also directed various leadership courses run by the organisation.

A strategy devised during his studies in MA Sports Management and Leadership to improve centralised support for clubs based locally has since also been prioritised for achievement by Wales’ Club Support Network, a group he continues to play a pivotal role in as an ongoing member.

“It gives me great pride to take up this challenge of empowering students to become the future industry workforce. The Football Development landscape has changed considerably over the past decade with practitioners requiring a comprehensive and diverse set of skills to become employment ready. I relish the opportunity to support students to fulfil their personal goals and enhance their university experience through work based learning opportunities.”
