About

Gavin is a Senior Lecturer in Football Coaching and Development and is the current course leader for the prestigious and unique BSc (Hons) Football Coaching and Performance programme, here at USW. Gavin has a wealth of Higher Education experience and has led programmes at Foundation Degree; Honours Degree and Masters Degree level and holds external examiner roles at other Higher Education Institutions.
As part of his role at the University, Gavin leads modules in ‘Coaching adolescent performers’; ‘Performance football coaching’ and ‘Analysis in football coaching and performance’. Grounded in pedagogy, Gavin is enthusiastic and passionate about developing high quality teaching and the development of innovative learning environments. Academically, Gavin has published in the areas of reflective practice; coaching pedagogy, coach education and coach-athlete interaction and continues to show a keen interest in these areas.

Experience

Professionally, Gavin is a UEFA A Licensed coach and former professional football player, who proudly works at an International level, coaching at u15/16 age-grade with Wales and was a part of the team that recently retained the Victory Shield. Gavin is also the manger at Barry Town Utd; a position he has held successfully for around 300 senior games.
In addition to these roles, Gavin works as a UEFA coach educator, mentor and assessor on behalf of the Football Association of Wales Trust (FAWT) and delivers a combination of theory and practical content across the coach education spectrum (UEFA B, through to UEFA Pro Licence).
