Mel Tuckwell is a lecturer, coach, teacher and mentor. She is a highly experienced and qualified coach and coach educator and has also played International Netball at all levels. She has coached Wales and several U21 teams to World Championships across the world. In August 2015 she was the Technical Advisor for the Welsh Netball team at the Netball World Cup in Australia, where Wales finished their highest placing 7th since 1991. She is currently the Assistant Coach to the Celtic Dragons Netball Superleague team and Assistant Coach to the Welsh National netball team.


Prior to joining the University she worked for the Sports Council for Wales and played a strategic role in advising and guiding National Governing Bodies of Sport in delivering their business plans and national objectives. Prior to this she spent ten years at Welsh Netball in two roles, the latter as National Development Manager. She has been Chair of Performance for Welsh Netball for three years prior to taking on a coaching role.

In the past six years I have successfully completed MSc supervisions in the area of Sports Coaching.

Public Engagement Activities and Esteem Indicators

I have presented at numerous Welsh Netball Coaching Conferences and I am currently a Mentor for the Performance Hub Coaches. I currently have a strategic role for Welsh Netball where I have been asked to develop and lead a strategy for Performance for the next 12 years.

In 2014 I presented at the Sports Coach UK – Coaching summit in Glasgow, on Mentoring
