Lena started with the University of Wales, Newport in 2008 covering leave in the International Office and then Student Services. In 2009 she was promoted to the position of Student Money Advisor in Student Services and continues in this role under USW as a Money and Support Advisor.
In 2011 she was made Care Leaver Coordinator and was the key contact for all students from a Care Leaver background for all 5 campuses of USW until 2015 when she went part time. She is still part of the Care Leaver Team and gives financial advice and guidance to all Care Leavers at USW.
Lena also works as a tutor for First Campus on events and activities with school age to adult returnees encouraging the importance of learning. Her main area is budgeting and financial workshops encouraging young students to understand the funding available to them.
She has been involved in many projects involving students as partners including the Money Doctors films which received an Ffresh Film Award in 2011 and finalists in the NASMA awards in 2012 and 2013.
She is a member of the National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA) and was Welsh Regional Contact for NASMA in 2013-2014 and on the NASMA Training and Development Group in 2012-2013.
Along with her colleagues she was awarded the Best Partnership award at the NASMA 2014 annual conference, in recognition of the good work between the Univeristy’s Student Money Advice and Disability teams.
She has been a accredited member of NASMA since 2013.
She led UWN in 2011 and USW in 2014 in gaining the Buttle UK Quality Mark in recognition of its commitment to young people in and leaving care. She is a member of CLASS Cymru where she has hosted and chaired meetings involving Universities in Wales sharing best practice for Care Leavers in Wales.

In her spare time she is the Unit Leader (Brown Owl) for the 4th Caerleon Brownies and the Assistant District Commissioner for the Caerleon and Ponthir Girlguiding.
