Louise Miles known as Lou Miles
Louise studied at the University of Staffordshire and achieved a Certificate In Advice Studies and is also a qualified Hypnotherapist. She worked in the financial services sector prior to starting at the University of Wales, Newport in 2006 as a Student Income Assistant. Whilst working at the University she has also obtained the Institute of Leadership & Management qualification.
In 2008 she joined the Student Money Advice Team in Student Services as a Student Money Adviser.
Louise thrives on offering practical support to financially vulnerable students and enjoys working to offer students a range of support to suit their needs.
She has also been part of the Bursary Working Group that brought in criteria and guidance relating to the Newport Bursary schemes when the top up tuition fees were first introduced.
Louise set up and coordinated the ‘Living responsibly campaign’ in 2011 encouraging all support services to work together at events to promote a healthy, wealthy and stealthy life for students at University!
Louise has been working in the Student Funding/Advice field for 8 years and is a steering group member of a South Wales Gambling Pilot Group encouraging students to access support from local intervention workers in the local area. She also works on a policy level as part of the modernisation group working to streamline the Student Finance Wales funding system, representing Wales at a policy level as a NASMA Welsh Policy Director/Trustee Board member.
