Samantha Davies known as Sam Davies
BA (Joint Hons) English & History
Sam studied at the Caerleon campus of the former Gwent College of Higher Education, before starting as an Information Assistant in the former University of Wales College, Newport in 1996. She then became Childcare/Access Funds Co-ordinator in 1998 and is now a member of the Student Money Advice Team.
Sam enjoys the frontline element of her role and feeling that she can make a difference. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Tiny Tots Nursery on the Caerleon campus in 2002 and received a CELT Learning Support award for this work in 2009. She was a founder member and Secretary of the Financial Contingency Fund Administrators Group, which was set up to share discretionary fund good practice with other Welsh HEIs and meets with representatives from the Welsh Government.
Sam is a member of NASMA (National Association of Student Money Advisers) and accepted a Best Partnership award at their annual conference in 2014, in recognition of the good work between the Univeristy’s Student Money Advice and Disability teams. The Welsh Region was also awarded NASMA Region of the Year 2015.
