About

Stephen started his career in the hotel industry, gaining an HND in Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management from Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brooks University). He worked for several hotel companies between 1982 and 2001 spending time in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Swansea, Cardiff and Bristol before finishing up as the opening General Manager of the Big Sleep Hotel in Cardiff.

Having decided to make a career change, he moved into Facilities Management, and in 2001 he took up the position of Head of Buildings and Facilities Management at the City of Bristol College. In 2007 he obtained an MSc in Facilities Management from the University of Reading, and was appointed as Director of Estates at the University of Wales, Newport in December of that year. In addition to the traditional Estates functions, he is also responsible for other non-core functions such as Health and Safety, Security, Cleaning, Accommodation, Catering, IT Services, and Environmental issues.

Married, with two children, Stephen has lived in South East Wales for 15 years, and is therefore delighted to be involved with his local university. He is particularly proud of the new City Campus and its anticipated impact upon the regeneration of the City Centre.

In his spare time, Stephen is keen on DIY, is treasurer of a local scout group and is an associate tutor for the College of Estates Management working on several distance learning Facilities Management courses. An enthusiastic skier, Stephen can be found looking wistfully at the mountains as soon as the snow appears!
