Peter Ashcroft is the Technical Demonstrator and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of South Wales, where he delivers on practical lectures and oversees all of the training provision to University athletes and external partners, including the Welsh National Netball team, Celtic Dragons Netball Franchise and Cardiff City Football Academy. Peter also manages the University’s strength and conditioning coach development programme, which involves mentorship and daily supervision of students as they gain practical coaching experience.
Peter has a master’s degree, focusing on youth resistance training, and is an accredited member of both the National Strength & Conditioning Association (CSCS & NSCA-CPT) and UK Strength & Conditioning Association (ASCC). He is also a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction (RSCC*D), through the National Strength & Conditioning Association, which is awarded to individuals with a minimum of 10 years coaching experience.
Peter began his strength and conditioning career in 2002 as a student assistant at Coleg Powys, a further education College in Mid Wales. He spent six years at the college, taking on the role of Head strength and conditioning coach during his final year. Peter then spent two years a the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales), where whilst undertaking a masters degree, he assisted in the development of the University’s strength and conditioning programme. Prior to his current position, Peter was the head strength and conditioning coach at the University of York, where as the University’s first strength and conditioning coach he was responsible for setting up the programme and developing it’s training facilities.
