Research into children’s schemas in the Foundation Phase. I have explored how children use repeated patterns of behaviour (schemas) to construct their knowledge and understanding in the Foundation phase in Wales. I have used my finding in my teaching at the university to support students in making the crucial links between theory and practice. The following quotes show the impact this has had:
• Victoria Miles (Year 2 Early Years student) “I have been able to use Amanda’s work on schemas in my essay and portfolio on observation so it has informed my practice."
• Dean Jones (Year 3 Childhood Development Student) “I have used the lectures on schemas to support me in my assessment on play and learning in the early years.”
