Introduced the subject Creative Writing to this campus some twenty years ago and until recently led the subject area. He was the Scheme Leader of the M.Phil in Writing degree, formerly the MA in Writing. Masters students have gone on to publish some thirty books of fiction and poetry.

Tony Curtis was born in Carmarthen in west Wales and read English at Swansea University. He later did the MFA degree at Goddard College, Vermont, the only UK writer to graduate from that legendary course.

He has published over thirty books of poetry, criticism and cultural commentary. Seren Books are the publishers unless otherwise stated –

He has given poetry readings or lectures in the USA, Canada, France, Belgium, Spain, Yugoslavia, the Czech Republic, The Republic of Slovakia, Italy, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Eire and throughout the UK.

The Welsh Arts Council Young Writers Prize, 1974

The National Poetry Prize, 1984

The Dylan Thomas award, 1993

The Cholmondeley Award, 1997

Professor of Poetry at the University since 1993.

In 2000 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature


Taught for 42 years, all but five of those in higher education and on the Treforest campus from 1979.
