Research Interests

I intend my paintings to challenge viewers’ expectations of genre and context, eliciting humour and empathy. In the past, I have turned my chest into a landscape for Christmas decorations and shared my pullover with a knitted cat. My starting point is often some quirky arrangement of objects inspired by children’s or ‘outsider’ art, such as the vegetable sculptures found in village agricultural shows. I am interested in the transformation of inanimate objects into paint. Are they, aren’t they alive?
