Dave commenced employment as a Senior Lecturer in Quantity Surveying at the University in September 2010 and comes from both a Consultancy and Contractor Quantity Surveying background.
Main teaching subjects include:
- Civil Engineering Measurement and Technology (CESMM4);
- Building meaurement (NRM2);
- Contract Management (NEC3);
- Integrating Project Levels 1, 2 and 3;
- Introduction to Surveying & Setting Out; and
- MSc and BSc student dissertation supervision.
Dave formerly graduated in 1994 as a Rural Practice Surveyor, however, due to the economic difficulties facing the agricultural industry in the mid 1990’s he switched to working in the civil engineering sector for Amec Tunnelling. This career change focused his intentions towards Quantity Surveying and graduated from the University of Glamorgan in 2001 with 1st Class Honours.
Whilst studing at the University of Glamorgan back in 1999 he started his Quantity Surveying career with ChandlerKBS, Cardiff,working extensively in the water utility sector and building sector of the construction industry.
Dave shifted employment to the RPA Group in 2003, Cardiff, a building PQS QS practice where he worked as Employers Agent on £3.4 million extra care home at Bettws, Newport and also the £400k fit out of a Japanese Sushi Bar. He was also involved in the nationwide Tesco refresh programme, which involved the improvement of numerous Tesco superstores with a capital spend between £100k and £1 million.
In May 2005 he moved to Penhow Civil Engineering Ltd, a building sub-contractor undertaking the cost management of the ground works element of numerous housing developments in South Wales and West of England.
In 2006 Dave was appointed as Senior Quantity Surveyor with the large contracting organisation called Costain. Whilst with Costain, he worked on the £11.4 million Newport City Centre Regeneration Project.
On completion of the above Costain project in 2007 he undertook the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor with a major consultancy called Capita Symonds, during which time he headed the commercial team for the £24 million Llandysul By-pass Project in West Wales.
