About

I am currently Deputy Head of the School of Health, Sport and Professional Practice here at the University of South Wales. In addition to these duties, I work as an Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University, Australia and Associate Lecturer at Oxford Brooks University’s Institute of Public Care.

Experience

My primary area of interests lies with exploring new commercial markets and management. Research for the police has included work around demand management, community intelligence, strategic management and leadership and the use of volunteers. As a member of academic staff within the University, much of his work revolves around planning, writing and developing material on areas such as ‘policing in the big society’, ‘knowledge management’, ‘policing in the financial crisis’ ‘the use of intelligence’ and ‘the impact of terrorism on policing’. Over recent years, much time and effort has been dedicated to publishing, culminating in over 75 articles, papers and books being produced aimed at both national and international audiences. These publications are designed to assist policy makers, including senior practitioners within the area of policing and other public sector services make decisions in difficult economic times and to have the maximum impact upon the provision of public services in this country and abroad. In more recent years, I have been working on developing, designing and managing international Masters Programs from the state of Brunei along with other international commercial contracts.

Responsibilities

I am responsible for operationally running and leading the School of Heath, Sport and Professional Practice at the University of South Wales which currently services over 2500 students and has around 100 members of staff and other associates working within it. Over my academic career, I have been fortunate enough to have experienced teaching at all levels within higher education, including levels 4, 5, 6 and 7. In addition to this wide spectrum encompassing both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, much work has been carried out at the practitioner level. My primary duties currently involve managing the International Centre for Policing and Security delivering degrees and other professional qualifications to students across many different countries at home and aboard. In addition to these duties, I am responsible for income generation through carrying out research, teaching, supervising PhDs, applying for grants and overseeing the delivery of services with our partners including Top2% and other HE institutions across the world including Germany and Australia.
