Lecturer in Sustainable Energy Science at the Sustainable Environment Research Centre. In addition to lecturing duties, responsibilities include the delivery of externally funded research projects in line with all technical, financial and contractual obligations. Also assist with the delivery of the Wales Centre of Excellence for Anaerobic Digestion which provides technical and non technical support to stakeholders in the emerging biogas industry in Wales, and provide Life Cycle Analysis input into research projects across the group.

Life cycle assessment of existing and emerging renewable hydrogen and methane technologies and the economic requirements for large scale implementation. Also had direct responsibility for the development of Â£2.4 million of the H2 Wales project application focussing on the development of processes to produce bioplastics from by-products of bio-hydrogen production.
Feasibility Study into the Potential for the Production of Microbial Fuel Cells Utilising Indigenous Manufacturing Skills in Wales. Funded by A4B.
Assessment of the political and industrial drivers, potential markets and manufacturing requirements required to develop an demonstrator industrial effluent MFC.

Delivery of assistance to all stakeholders within the emerging anaerobic digestion industry in Wales including technical appraisals, feasibility studies, policy and regulatory development and financial viability. Significant input into the development of the project and the ERDF funding application.

PhD – Life Cycle Analysis of Renewable Hydrogen and Methane as Fuel Vectors, and a Critical Analysis of their Future Development in the UK.
2007 – 2009
Wales Waste & Resources Research Centre (WWRReC). Funded by WAG
WWRReC Coordinator for University of Glamorgan, UWIC and University of Newport. The role involved co-ordinating £1.5 million of research applications relating to waste and resource use across the three institutions. The project led to the development of BioRREFORM, a collaborative project researching the development of a process to produce bioplastics from the by-products of bio-hydrogen production which was successfully integrated into the H2 Wales project in 2010.
2006 – 2008
Hydrogen Energy Farm. Funded by INTERREG IIIA.
Research into the feasibility of establishing a farm scale demonstration facility for the conversion of agricultural by-products and crops into hydrogen and methane gas. Project involved finding appropriate feedstocks, partners, plant location, costing and funding application for Phase II (construction) of the facility, and dissemination of development information to partners in Ireland.
2005 – 2006
Aquatic Biomass Activity Monitor (AquaBAM). Funded by KEF
Design, development and testing of an analytical instrument for the quantification of biomass (i.e. bacteriological) activity within groundwater. Patent application submitted, decision pending.
