Experience

Marcus was educated at the universities of Oxford, Cardiff and Bristol. He joined the NHS on the national management training scheme, and held a variety of managerial and planning posts in the NHS in England and Wales during the 1980s and 1990s, latterly in the Welsh Health Planning Forum (a WHO Collaborating Centre). He was appointed Associate Director of the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care, University of Glamorgan, at its inception in October 1995, and to a personal Chair at the University in 2006. He became Director of the Institute in 2008.

Current research interests include the policy and practical implications of greater public and patient involvement in healthcare decision-making; the impact of devolution of health policy; the development of the health professions in the future (with a particular interest in nursing and pharmacy); healthcare futures generally; and evaluation of health policy initiatives in Wales and elsewhere.
