About

Dr Thanapalan is currently, with the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science (CES) at the University of South Wales (USW), UK and a leading researcher in the fields of System Engineering, Energy, Control & Automation and Material Science. He has published over 75 research papers in peer reviewed international journals and refereed international conferences. He graduated from the City University London with a first class BEng (Hons) in Control Engineering, later he obtained his PhD in Aerospace control systems from the University of Liverpool and then conducted his research and development activities in various capacities at the University of Southampton and University College London (UCL). His current research includes; operational safety analysis and controller design of drones system, early failure detection methods for composites materials, improved SOC & SOH estimation for long series lithium cell for high power automotive application and energy capture & storage for domestic consumption.

Experience

15 years experience in Systems Engineering, Energy, Control & Automation, Material Science, mathematical modelling and control of mechanical systems. In more recent years, responsible for hybrid electric vehicle system modelling and powertrain development focus on next generation vehicles developments. Dr Thanapalan has led and has been an investigator/co-investigator for numerous R & D projects.
