Sid has worked in the FE/HE sector for many years, first as a lecturer and now as a counsellor. He also ran his own private counselling practice for 6 years. This has given him experience of working with clients on a range of issues such as sexual abuse, multiple personality disorder, depression, attempted suicide/suicidal thoughts, self-harm, sexuality, bipolar, isolation, bullying, relationships and studying.
He describes himself as a person-centred and experiential counsellor, which to him is about being ‘real’ with his client, accepting of who and what they present, and being non-judgemental. He also endeavours to create a safe and trusting space so that a therapeutic relationship may develop – which in turn may lead to shared goal-setting, client clarity of their situation, client understanding of the counselling process, client growth and client emancipation.
He is also qualified to offer online counselling (Skype). He was the first member of the counselling team to embark in this medium and set up the USW’s Online Counselling Service in 2010.
