Various Sports Coaching Tutor Qualifications
My background is in Sports Development and Coaching where I have gained various coaching, tutoring and mentoring qualifications. I have worked in a variety of fields within Sports Development. These include Generic Sports Development Officer, Hockey Development Officer, Dragon Sport Coordinator, Tutor and Generic Sports Coach. These positions were mainly focused on engaging young people and children in physical activity through the development of projects and schemes and the training of teachers, coaches and volunteers to deliver these programmes.
Before coming to work at the University of Glamorgan in September 2009 I was working at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff as a Sports Development Manager. This position involved managing a programme of activity for 1500 children a week which was delivered by Students, Coaches and Volunteers. My experiences in this role also include project management, event management, coach development and mentoring and coach education and work on academic modules in terms of volunteering and volunteer placements in coaching and sports development.
In my current role as Lecturer in Sports Coaching my main focus and interest is in the development of coaches/students in the delivery of sport and physical activity, focussing on working with children and young people. This involves partnerships working local authorities on Sports Council Wales Active Young People initiatives, such as Dragons Sport and 5×60.
