Prior to joining the University in 2009, Rhys worked for a number of organisations including South Wales Police and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
Responsibility for compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998, Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and Records Management.
Manage the University’s response to complex information legislation requests to ensure that they are dealt with efficiently and effectively in line with the legislation and best practice guidelines. Draft responses to requests, liaising with senior managers and other University staff as necessary to ensure that the response is complete and accurate.
Advise and provide guidance to staff on information legislation to enable University staff to comply with legislation and to manage their information efficiently.
Develop and manage a training and communications programme and deliver training and presentations, to ensure that relevant University staff understand information legislation and records management principles and requirements, and know what they need to do to comply with them. This includes disseminating, promoting and publicising policy, guidance, procedures and best practice.
Research and produce policy, guidance, procedures and best practice advice in the context of relevant external national and international standards to ensure that the University remains compliant with its obligations.
