Gareth is a Lecturer within the International Centre for Policing and Security at the University and is currently developing a collaborative partnership with Dyfed Powys Police to design and deliver the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) to new recruits from March 2019.
Prior to joining the University in September 2018, Gareth served with South Wales Police as an operational Police Officer for thirty years. He performed various roles during that time including front line policing and a range of specialist departments. In 2010 Gareth became the Initial Police Learning Sergeant having managerial responsibility for training and development of new recruits to the service. In 2014 Gareth was seconded to the Fire Service as part of an all Wales task force to tackle deliberate fires across Wales. Gareth returned to South Wales Police in 2017 as the Project Lead of the All Wales Police Force Strategic Group for the implementation of the College of Policing’s ‘Policing Education Qualifications Framework’ (PEQF). Gareth was also a member of the College of Policing’s National Initial Education Programme Board and Implementation Reference Group. Gareth has also lectured on the Police Sciences degree as an hourly paid lecturer.
