Sue Birkin known as Sue Birkin
- Student Services
- Specialist Study Skills Tutor
I attended Aberystwyth University, where I studied Geology and then moved to Swansea University to complete my PGCE.
Since then I have worked in both formal and informal education settings, including primary schools, Cardiff University and, as Primary Schools Programme Manager, at Techniquest Science Discovery Centre, Cardiff Bay.
I joined USW as Specialist Study Skills Tutor with the Disability and Dyslexia Service in January 2018.
My interests include Science education, Early Years education, and supporting learners with disabilities and SpLDs.
My main achievements have been writing two books for primary teachers (co-author) and being awarded the ASE/ ASTA* Fellowship 1992, when I travelled to Australia for 8 weeks, to share ideas on science education with Australian colleagues.
I have participated in conferences in the UK and overseas, including ASE (Association for Science Education), ESCITE (European network of Science Centres) and ASTEC (Association of Science-Technology Centres).
I am an associate member of Dyslexia Guild UK, and am currently studying to gain further qualifications to help me support adults with dyslexia and co-occurring difficulties.
